Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones' met while originating the roles of John Laurens/Philip Hamilton and Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds in Lin Manuel Miranda's culture-shifting Broadway musical, Hamilton, and coupled up shortly after their first rehearsal together.

Between 2017 and 2021, they regularly shared Instagram tributes and raved about each other in interviews. In 2018, Ramos told PEOPLE how meaningful it was to enjoy success alongside his partner.

"I think that's a blessing. I'm truly just eternally grateful for her, man. I get excited when I think about it," he said.

Cephas Jones echoed her then-fiancé's sentiment during a radio interview with Bevy Smith.

"[Anthony and I] love to work together, we wish we could work together more," she told the host.

Their six-year relationship saw countless milestones: Grammy wins, red carpet appearances, creative collaboration, costarring roles and a fairy-tale marriage proposal. However, in 2021, they called off their engagement, nearly three years after Ramos proposed.

While the former pair continued to book blockbusters and land lead roles on TV, they remained private about the details of their breakup.

Sparks flew between Ramos and Cephas Jones during an early table read of Hamilton. Miranda reminisced about the couple's relationship beginnings in a tweet posted shortly after their engagement announcement. Right off the bat, he recalled, the two actors couldn't keep their eyes off each other.

"First table read, Hamilton, 2015, Off-Broadway: Anthony keeps sneaking glances at our newest cast member, Jasmine," Miranda wrote. "Me: Ruh-roh."

February 2015: Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones confirm their relationship 

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Ramos confirmed that the couple made things official around Valentine's Day 2015. Fans did the math when Ramos shared a two-year-anniversary tribute in February 2017.

The Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) star wrote, "Yo but for real tho..... I love you because of this right here. 2 years yesterday/today (Anniversary spills into the evemornin)."

February 15, 2016: Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones win Grammys for Hamilton

Ramos and Cephas Jones were catapulted to stardom during Hamilton's first year on Broadway. In February 2016, they hit the red carpet at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, where the show won best musical theater album.

The couple shared the stage with their castmates during a live performance of the musical's opening number, "Alexander Hamilton," and rushed in from the wings when their win was announced. As featured soloists on the soundtrack, they each scored their own trophies.

Both in costume, Ramos and Cephas Jones embraced as Miranda accepted the award with a rap-style speech. Ramos cheered and held a Puerto Rican flag above his head in celebration.

The pair continued to support each other in their artistic endeavors, with Cephas Jones accompanying Ramos to the Toronto Film Festival premiere of A Star Is Born (2018), in which he plays Lady Gaga's character's best friend, Ramon. Cephas Jones wore a strapless black dress, and Ramos donned a subtly checkered, grey suit.

September 28, 2018: Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones costar in Monsters and Men

Though their time in Hamilton came to an end in 2016, the couple kept acting together, joining forces in the drama film Monsters and Men (2018). Ramos played Manny Ortega, and Cephas Jones played his wife, Marisol.

"Working with Jasmine, being able to work with my other half, that's the dream," Ramos told Blackfilm.com at the time.

For her role, Cephas Jones had to wear a prosthetic pregnant belly, which stirred up some emotions in Ramos.

"And then now, fast forward, you're working with your girl on this film, and we're in this apartment, and I see her come out the room after she changed into her costume for the first time with this pregnant belly and you know, we ain't got a kid. But there was this level of excitement and nervousness and joy that came over me," said Ramos.

While the film made him excited to start a family with his girlfriend, Ramos hinted to ET Online that they weren't ready just yet.

"We're getting the careers popped off right now, you know, we just got a dog, like hold up!" he said.

The stars got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2018 and shared the news in early January 2019 via social media. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Cephas Jones gushed about the romantic proposal.

"My beloved Anthony, On Christmas Eve you got down on one knee and proposed to me in front of my favorite castle in Arundel that I used to visit all the time as a child," the actress captioned the post.

"It brought tears to my eyes because I don't get to see my family in England that I'm so close with that much because we are an ocean away, but they got to witness this amazing event in our lives. And what a moment it was!! All because of you."

Ramos celebrated the announcement with a couple-selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower, and captioned it with a lyric from a Johnnyswim song, "Take the World."

He quoted: "'Cause they can write stories And they can sing songs But they don't make fairy tales sweeter than ours And they can climb mountains high into the sky But they can't take the world Oh, like we can take the world.' "

At the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Ramos and Cephas Jones made their first red carpet appearance since their engagement. The actor and his castmates were nominated for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture for A Star is Born.

In an Instagram story posted on the way to the event, Cephas Jones flashed a peace sign with her left hand, giving fans a glimpse of her new ring. She sat beside Ramos, who gave the camera a thumbs up. She kept the caption short and sweet: "Sag Awards."

September 2019: Anthony Ramos serenades Jasmine Cephas Jones on stage

At a New York City venue, Ramos brought his then-fiancée on stage to serenade her with a rendition of Robin Thicke's "Lost Without U." In a video of the performance, Ramos took Cephas Jones by the hand and gazed into her eyes while she beamed and swayed to his singing.

The following Valentine's Day, he posted the romantic clip on his Facebook page with the caption, "I'm lost without you Can't help myself How does it feel To know that I love you, baby? Happy Valentine's Day Jasmine Cephas Jones."

Ramos enlisted the talents of his then-fiancée in a steamy music video for his song "Mind Over Matter." Between shots of Ramos crooning to the camera, the couple kisses, cuddles and strips down to their undies.

In a statement to TheaterMania, Ramos explained, "'Mind Over Matter' is about celebrating long lasting love, and it doesn't get more real than my fiancé [sic] Jasmine Cephas Jones starring in the video."

He continued, "[The song is] about making love to someone you truly love, when it becomes less about the physical and more about the mental connection. I'm going through your body to get to your mind – Mind Over Matter."

Ramos and Cephas Jones hit the red carpet at the 92nd annual Academy Awards in February 2020. Ramos' invitation was thanks to his lead role in In The Heights, and Cephas Jones tagged along to support her then-fiancé.

Ramos wore a white blazer and a long, gold necklace, and Cephas Jones wore a stunning, deep-cut black gown with puffy sleeves.

At the release of In The Heights, Ramos told PEOPLE that Cephas Jones was his rock.

"She's a pillar," he said of her role in his life. "What's amazing is that she's doing it on her own, too. She's having her own moment."

Ramos starred as Dominican American bodega owner Usnavi de la Vega in the film adaption of Miranda's 2008 stage musical. At the premiere, he wore a Dolce & Gabbana leopard-print suit, and Cephas Jones stunned in a white, asymmetrical LBV gown.

After six years together and almost three years after Ramos popped the question, the stars ended their engagement.

E! News broke the story, reporting that the couple called off their engagement before the official split. Following the breakup, Ramos and Cephas Jones scrubbed their Instagram accounts of former couple pics, anniversary tributes and any talk of the engagement or proposal.
